Mammogram is Safe with Saline
“I am often asked about breast cancer screening such as mammograms. With saline implants, patients can safely receive a mammogram scan without worry of rupture.” – Dr. Bartell
Saline vs Silicon Benefit According to Dr. Bartell
“Another benefit to saline vs. silicone implants is my ability to adjust the fill volume of each implant which accounts for the natural asymmetry of the female chest. In 50% of all breast augmentation procedures, the fill volume is not equal. With silicone, the surgeon is unable to adjust the fill volume.” –Dr. Bartell
Heather, a Practice Manager who works in the plastic surgery industry, discusses why she chose Ideal Implant over a traditional silicone or saline breast implants and how confident and happy she is with her choice.
The IDEAL IMPLANT® difference
- Lower rupture rate and higher rupture strength—no silent rupture
- No MRI needed—look in the mirror to know that your implants are intact
- No sticky silicone gel from ruptured implants in the surrounding tissue
- Filled with saline that is safely absorbed by the body if ruptured
- Allows a smaller incision than silicone gel implants
The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant gives you the natural feel you want, and with advantages over silicone gel implants. Although it is filled with only saline for your peace of mind, the implant has a natural feel because of its internal supporting structure that controls movement of the saline.
If the IDEAL IMPLANT ruptures, the saline inside is harmlessly absorbed by the body. In addition, you have the confidence of knowing that your implants are intact just by looking in the mirror. In contrast, if a silicone gel implant ruptures, it is “silent” and cannot be detected by looking in the mirror. Current silicone gel implants have been shown to have a high rate of rupture based on MRI scans.
“In my profession I have seen many ruptured silicone gel implants removed, and I knew this was not something I wanted for myself. I am very thin and fit and do not have much breast tissue, so my saline implants showed a lot of rippling and wrinkling, and depending on how I was standing, you could sometimes see the outline of the implant under my skin. Since my saline implants have been replaced with IDEAL IMPLANTS, I no longer have any wrinkling or rippling, and my husband says these implants feel natural.” – Barbara, Surgical Nurse
Women have wanted a new type of breast implant – one that would combine the natural feel of a silicone gel implant with only saline inside for safety and peace of mind. After years of research, engineering, product development and a large US clinical trial, the IDEAL IMPLANT was approved by FDA and Health Canada, and is now available through a limited network of board certified or eligible plastic surgeons.
The IDEAL IMPLANT has a series of implant shells nested together and two separate chambers that hold the saline. This internal structure controls movement of the saline and supports the implant edges to reduce folding and wrinkling. In addition, the implant has been designed to contour to the natural curve of the chest wall.
The IDEAL IMPLANT has been in clinical use since February 2009, at the start of the clinical trial. By February 2010, 502 women received the IDEAL IMPLANT from 45 board certified plastic surgeon investigators nationwide. In clinical follow-up over five years, patient and surgeon satisfaction with the outcome has been high and the capsule contracture rate has been low.*

I never really liked my breasts and always wanted them to be a little fuller, but not have people know I received a breast augmentation. When I had the option to receive the IDEAL IMPLANT, I chose it because it combined the safety with the full look I had been wanting. I have since had a baby, and my breasts still look fantastic. –Lacey, Respiratory Therapist and Mother of Two
I have been much more comfortable and confident with my IDEAL IMPLANTS. My gel implants always felt hard and I was embarrassed by them. When I had the gel implants replaced with IDEAL IMPLANTS, my surgeon confirmed that my gel implants had ruptured and were slowly leaking. I’ve had my IDEAL IMPLANTS for over six years, and am completely happy. I would definitely recommend them. –Sherrie, Nurse Practitioner
What is a silent rupture?
Ruptures of silicone gel implants are silent – looking in the mirror does not tell you if your implants are intact or ruptured. FDA recommends a MRI scan every two years for detection. But with IDEAL IMPLANT, you know your implants are intact by simply glancing in the mirror. Rupture is easily detected and the saline is safely absorbed by the body.
