The patient is a 37-year-old woman, in good health, who wore a B cup and wanted to be a C cup. She came to the office with her husband to ask questions regarding breast enlargement surgery. Upon examination it is ascertained that the patient's left breast is significantly larger than the right, a condition which was anticipated to be rectified through the surgery. Using the cosmetic book, the patient helped determine the desired size of the implant to be used. (She did not want the result to appear too big). The surgery was conducted under general anesthesia and went normally. In the days immediately following the surgery, the patient had the usual swelling and bruising, and was using the prescribed pain medication to control discomfort. Three weeks after the surgery, the patient was allowed to discontinue use of the breast wrap but was cautioned against wearing anything with underwire for several weeks. At her final follow-up appointment, the patient's breasts had excellent symmetry with regard to size and shape, an improvement over the pre-operative condition. The resulting size, as desired, was a small C cup and the patient was very happy with the outcome.
