About Dr. Bartell
Dr. Thomas H. Bartell, MD, SC
Dr. Thomas Bartell, a Board-Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, educated at Yale University and the University of Wisconsin Medical School, has been practicing in Madison since 1992.
A native of Madison, Dr. Bartell received his bachelor’s degree from Yale majoring in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, participating in a nationally recognized pre-medicine program. He successfully balanced his studies with a worldwide performance schedule as a member of the famed Yale Wiffenpoofs, a top-flight a capella singing group with a proud tradition of nearly a century of performing excellence.
Following his four years of medical school training back in Madison, Dr. Bartell spent the next seven in St. Louis for post-graduate study at Barnes Hospital, associated with Washington University’s top-ranked surgery programs and St. Louis University’s plastic surgery program. This training included a wide variety of general surgical procedures as well as concentration on the specialized areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery. During his training at Barnes, Dr. Bartell authored or co-authored more than a dozen scientific articles.
With the aim of further refining his surgical skills and knowledge Dr. Bartell applied and was selected for a prized surgical fellowship with a renowned plastic surgery hand specialist practicing in Tucson, Arizona.
The years that followed with a large plastic surgery practice in the Chicago suburbs gave Dr. Bartell the opportunity to focus extensively on cosmetic procedures and acquire the medical business acumen to return to Madison, a city dominated by large multi-specialty groups (HMO’s). His wife, Dr. Nina Petrovich Bartell, is a clinical psychologist specializing in forensics involving children and families. She heads up her own Madison-based privately operated practice, Advanced Psychological Innovations. They have three children.
Dr. Bartell is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a medical board accredited by the American Board of Medical Specialists, and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He prides himself on providing the highest quality of personalized care – safely, privately, and comfortably – at affordable prices.
Although Dr. Bartell is on staff at several local hospitals, he is able to perform most of his surgical procedures in his fully equipped and staffed operating suite contained within his Westside office. This state-of-the-art medical facility ensures his patients maximum privacy, convenience, and comfort, without the rigors of hospital admission and the associated costs of an in-hospital stay or procedure. He is also a Clinical Instructor with the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin Medical School
Addendum: should any of his patients ever be in the Phoenix, Arizona area with an affliction to the ear, nose or throat, Dr. Bartell highly recommends a talented local surgeon and otolaryngologist – his identical twin, Dr. Thad Bartell.
